We describe a new equation solving method, called Homogenization, which we have implemented in PRESS. Homogenization prepares equations, so that they can be solved by the Change of Unknown method. It does this by causing different occurrences of the unknown to occur within identical subterms. The method has application, outside equation solving, to the problem of generalizing expressions.","doi":null,"url":"https://ijcai.org/proceedings/1981/103","pdf":"https://ijcai.org/proceedings/1981/0103.pdf","markdown":"https://ijcai.org/proceedings/1981/103.md","bibtex":"https://ijcai.org/proceedings/1981/bibtex/103","volume":{"slug":"1981","title":"Proceedings of the Seventh International Joint Conference on Artificial Intelligence","short_title":"IJCAI 1981","url":"https://ijcai.org/proceedings/1981/","year":1981,"location":"Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada","dates":"24-28 August 1981","editors":"Roger C.
