In the Trutla Mainttnana SyJtrm (TMS) I introduce a new notion of \"reason for belief\" which permits the mechanization of these abilities as a problem solver subsystem . The TMS records and maintains the reasons for program beliefs. These recorded reasons are useful in constructing explanations of program beliefs and act1ons. and in guiding the course of action of a problem solver. This paper outlines some or the structure and applications of the TMS.","doi":null,"url":"https://ijcai.org/proceedings/1979/51","pdf":"https://ijcai.org/proceedings/1979/0051.pdf","markdown":"https://ijcai.org/proceedings/1979/51.md","bibtex":"https://ijcai.org/proceedings/1979/bibtex/51","volume":{"slug":"1979","title":"Proceedings of the Sixth International Joint Conference on Artificial Intelligence","short_title":"IJCAI 1979","url":"https://ijcai.org/proceedings/1979/","year":1979,"location":"Tokyo, Japan","dates":"August 20-23, 1979","editors":"Bruce G.
