We demonstrate how predicate logic and theorem-proving techniques using resolution can be used in a manufacturing environment. Assertions of fact and axioms representing the knowledge required are given in an underlying data base. Illustrative examples demonstrate how user problems, such as assignment of jobs to machines when conflicts occur, can be handled by a decision support system in the framework of resolution in a problemreduction approach.","doi":null,"url":"https://ijcai.org/proceedings/1979/31","pdf":"https://ijcai.org/proceedings/1979/0031.pdf","markdown":"https://ijcai.org/proceedings/1979/31.md","bibtex":"https://ijcai.org/proceedings/1979/bibtex/31","volume":{"slug":"1979","title":"Proceedings of the Sixth International Joint Conference on Artificial Intelligence","short_title":"IJCAI 1979","url":"https://ijcai.org/proceedings/1979/","year":1979,"location":"Tokyo, Japan","dates":"August 20-23, 1979","editors":"Bruce G.
