The relative merits of these two types of strategy are considered and methods are proposed for prod~cing correct algorithms by a process of iterative refinement based on an analysis of 'win-trees'. An example is given of the development of a fully correct strategy for the King and Rook against King chess endgame.","doi":null,"url":"https://ijcai.org/proceedings/1979/25","pdf":"https://ijcai.org/proceedings/1979/0025.pdf","markdown":"https://ijcai.org/proceedings/1979/25.md","bibtex":"https://ijcai.org/proceedings/1979/bibtex/25","volume":{"slug":"1979","title":"Proceedings of the Sixth International Joint Conference on Artificial Intelligence","short_title":"IJCAI 1979","url":"https://ijcai.org/proceedings/1979/","year":1979,"location":"Tokyo, Japan","dates":"August 20-23, 1979","editors":"Bruce G.
