It demonstrates that skills can be represented as virtual mechanisms programmed in software. Virtual mechanisms are defined by controlling both motion and force of a robot arm in a task related cartesian coordinate system. By adding monitoring, a skillful robot system can be built. The skill of an intelligent robot is accumulated in the form of task - particular knowledge that is a specification of the mechanism.","doi":null,"url":"https://ijcai.org/proceedings/1979/229","pdf":"https://ijcai.org/proceedings/1979/0229.pdf","markdown":"https://ijcai.org/proceedings/1979/229.md","bibtex":"https://ijcai.org/proceedings/1979/bibtex/229","volume":{"slug":"1979","title":"Proceedings of the Sixth International Joint Conference on Artificial Intelligence","short_title":"IJCAI 1979","url":"https://ijcai.org/proceedings/1979/","year":1979,"location":"Tokyo, Japan","dates":"August 20-23, 1979","editors":"Bruce G.
