The method is based on the idea that there are only a few basic ways in which the logical structure of programs is buill up. An experiment is presented which shows that this accounts for the structure of a large class of progr11ms. The pap!!r discuo:.ses how the method can be used to automatically analyze the structure of a program, and how the resultinG an<~lysis can be used to guide a proof of correctness for the program. An automatic system is described which performs this type of analysis. The paper discusses the relationship between the structure building methods presented and programming language constructs.","doi":null,"url":"https://ijcai.org/proceedings/1979/206","pdf":"https://ijcai.org/proceedings/1979/0206.pdf","markdown":"https://ijcai.org/proceedings/1979/206.md","bibtex":"https://ijcai.org/proceedings/1979/bibtex/206","volume":{"slug":"1979","title":"Proceedings of the Sixth International Joint Conference on Artificial Intelligence","short_title":"IJCAI 1979","url":"https://ijcai.org/proceedings/1979/","year":1979,"location":"Tokyo, Japan","dates":"August 20-23, 1979","editors":"Bruce G.
