Towards Minimal Data Structures for Deterministic Parsing
Proceedings of the Sixth International Joint Conference on Artificial Intelligence. .
Abstract
The determinism hypothesis suggests that natural languag~ may be parsed in a single pass without resort to backtracking techniques. The PARSIFAL system, devPloped by Marcus, incorporates this philosophy in an English language parser. Here, we show that the data structur~s used by this parser may be consi~er~bly simplified resulting in more elegant grammatical specifications.
