In this short paper, we present a general concept of hierarchi ca l production system(HPS). The HPS is an extended version of the current production system, in which two hierarchical structures of rules are employed. In one hierarchical structure, heuristic rules for conflict resolution are embedded and in another one, domain-specific rules are represented. The introduction of the hierarchical rule structures makes the HPS to be a useful framework for constructing knowledge-based systems.","doi":null,"url":"https://ijcai.org/proceedings/1979/128","pdf":"https://ijcai.org/proceedings/1979/0128.pdf","markdown":"https://ijcai.org/proceedings/1979/128.md","bibtex":"https://ijcai.org/proceedings/1979/bibtex/128","volume":{"slug":"1979","title":"Proceedings of the Sixth International Joint Conference on Artificial Intelligence","short_title":"IJCAI 1979","url":"https://ijcai.org/proceedings/1979/","year":1979,"location":"Tokyo, Japan","dates":"August 20-23, 1979","editors":"Bruce G.
