The nodes in the semantic net represent medical states (e.g. hypertension, diabetes) which may be true of the patient, while the links represent relations between the nodes (e.g. causes, predisposes, characterizes). The truth of any node with respect to the patient is represented by assertions associated with that node. The decision tables control a process called propagation in which an assertion about a given node can result in assertions about neighboring nodes. IRIS uses the propagation process to perform all necessary inferences.","doi":null,"url":"https://ijcai.org/proceedings/1977/60","pdf":"https://ijcai.org/proceedings/1977/0060.pdf","markdown":"https://ijcai.org/proceedings/1977/60.md","bibtex":"https://ijcai.org/proceedings/1977/bibtex/60","volume":{"slug":"1977","title":"Proceedings of the Fifth International Joint Conference on Artificial Intelligence","short_title":"IJCAI 1977","url":"https://ijcai.org/proceedings/1977/","year":1977,"location":"Cambridge, MA, USA","dates":"","editors":"Raj Reddy","isbn":"","publisher":"International Joint Conferences on Artificial Intelligence","doi_prefix":""},"section":"Representation of Knowledge","track":"Representation of Knowledge","number":60,"pages":{"first":274,"last":279},"keywords":[],"videos":[],"references":[],"license_note":"Copyright International Joint Conferences on Artificial Intelligence."}
