We then adopt, as a \"forcing function\" for the adequacy of such a representation, the problem of identifying the possible antecedents of anaphoric expressions. This suggests certain structural properties of a representation which facilitate the identification of possible antecedents. Given an appropriate representation language with such properties, it is then possible to deal with a surprisingly rich class of anaphora.","doi":null,"url":"https://ijcai.org/proceedings/1977/25","pdf":"https://ijcai.org/proceedings/1977/0025.pdf","markdown":"https://ijcai.org/proceedings/1977/25.md","bibtex":"https://ijcai.org/proceedings/1977/bibtex/25","volume":{"slug":"1977","title":"Proceedings of the Fifth International Joint Conference on Artificial Intelligence","short_title":"IJCAI 1977","url":"https://ijcai.org/proceedings/1977/","year":1977,"location":"Cambridge, MA, USA","dates":"","editors":"Raj Reddy","isbn":"","publisher":"International Joint Conferences on Artificial Intelligence","doi_prefix":""},"section":"Natural Language","track":"Natural Language","number":25,"pages":{"first":121,"last":130},"keywords":[],"videos":[],"references":[],"license_note":"Copyright International Joint Conferences on Artificial Intelligence."}
