WHISPER ''s components Include a high level reasoner which knows some qualitative aspects of Physics, a simulated parallel processing \"retina\" to \"look at\" Its diagrams, and a set of re-drawing procedures for modifying these diagrams. Roughly modelled after the human eye, WHISPER's retina can fixate at any diagram location, and Its resolution decreases away from Its center. Diagrams enable WHISPER to work with objects of arbitrary shape, detect collisions and other motion discontinuities, discover coincidental alignments, and easily update Ita world model after a state change.","doi":null,"url":"https://ijcai.org/proceedings/1977/104","pdf":"https://ijcai.org/proceedings/1977/0104.pdf","markdown":"https://ijcai.org/proceedings/1977/104.md","bibtex":"https://ijcai.org/proceedings/1977/bibtex/104","volume":{"slug":"1977","title":"Proceedings of the Fifth International Joint Conference on Artificial Intelligence","short_title":"IJCAI 1977","url":"https://ijcai.org/proceedings/1977/","year":1977,"location":"Cambridge, MA, USA","dates":"","editors":"Raj Reddy","isbn":"","publisher":"International Joint Conferences on Artificial Intelligence","doi_prefix":""},"section":"Problem-solving and Search","track":"Problem-solving and Search","number":104,"pages":{"first":459,"last":463},"keywords":[],"videos":[],"references":[],"license_note":"Copyright International Joint Conferences on Artificial Intelligence."}
