Automated Hypothesis Generation Using Extended Inductive Resolution
Proceedings of the Fourth International Joint Conference on Artificial Intelligence. Search Techniques. Pages 351-355.
Abstract
We report on a method of automated hypothe6i& gen~~ation, called !-resolution, which is derived from deductiv~:: resolution technio•tes. The method is inductive in characttr, in thsense thAt given input statement E, it generates hypotheses H, such that E is a deductive consequence ot H. The meth(Jd is extended by s generalized unlfi cation algorithm which introduces appropriate identity assumptions needed to unify a J,iair or literals. The !-resolution technique is shown to embody a version or Oclc.'lllll! 1 s razor as a prur•.Lng heuristic. Some promisin{; experi•nental results are also presented.
