## Abstract

A number o1· specific model examples show that the introduction af nonuniformity or ~ kind into a collective af automata illplementmg a co11111on task m93 result in improving the behaviour o~ the entire collective. Ways ~ introducing such purposeful nonuniformity are discussed.
