## Abstract

This paper describ es a USP program, called PCDE, for storage and retrieval in a data base of £redicate £alculus (PC) formulas. The PCDB package uses standardized representations of PC formulas, where ground unit clauses are stored efficiently , e.g. on the property-lists of their argJrnents, and other clauses have other representation. The major part of the PCJE package is a function generator, which acceDts declarations of PC relations and func~ions, a::d l.tlich also acce pts "rules" ( = non-gro~~d axior.s intended for use in deduction) Declarations and ~les are used to generate efficient code for storage and retrieval of "facts" (usually = ground unit clauses) in and fron t~e data base . This generation process ma y be c.'larac:erized as a "cx:pi l ation" of the r.rles (fron pred i cate calc•.rl·.rs to LISP).
